Make the throttle pedal meet the carpet, hear the revs rise, the V8 wailing behind you, and when the shift lights on the steering wheels hit the 5 reds, flick the right hand aluminium pedal and BAM! there’s a throaty ‘POP’ from the exhaust and the next gear arrives instantly…

This latest Ferrari combines their amazing V8 engine with their first Dual-Clutch 7spd gearbox, with amazing results. Add in another first – a folding metal hardtop on a Ferrari, and you can understand how important this GT is for the Prancing Horse. Perfect for driving to your favourite coast, roof down, finding tunnels to enjoy that sound…

What really differentiates the Porsche Cayenne from other SUVs is the super-quick steering, just 2.65 turns lock-to-lock, giving this car fantastic agility for something so big and heavy. Combine that with specially developed tyres, simply massive anti-roll bars, a 38:62 front-to-rear power split and a body height some six inches lower than a Range Rover, it does feel much easier to hustle than most of its rivals.
The Cayenne is technologically advanced and remarkably fast.

If you’d have told Average Joe 10 years ago that there would be a £115,000, 525bhp, V10 powered 4wd convertible supercar at the top of the Audi line-up, they would’ve had you committed to a mental asylum. Yet here in 2010, the R8 Spyder is very much alive and ready to tear up the tarmac.

Combining the Audi strengths of quality, design and 4wd security, with a version of the 5.2 litre V10 from Lamborghini creates a Supercar that is more than a match for its rivals from Porsche, Ferrari and Jaguar. Some even rate it above the LP560 Spyder!

The Tesla is one of the most exciting cars we have ever tested. It is quite astonishing because, like the current batch of poorly built quadricycles that trundle around our city centres, it achieves forward motion by using an electric motor.

And what sensational 'forward motion' this car has. It has supercar performance: the 0-60mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds is on par with a Ferrari 430 and as an added bonus this electrically powered monster comes with sharp handling and even sharper looks.

This is an electric car that performs like a Porsche!

Porsche 997 C2S

The sweet-spot in a car model range can be defined in many ways. In the 911 range, some say the base Carrera2 is too low on power, the Turbo too powerful, the GT3 too hardcore. So in walk the Carrera 2S and 4S. 380bhp makes it quick enough to embarrass 80% of the cars you come across on the road, and the dynamics shine though, with a delicate balance to every control. Want more grip? Get the 4S with the same 4wd system as the Turbo. Simple, effective and engaging to drive, its possibly all the car you’ll ever need.

Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6

That spec demonstrates the sheer power and grunt that this sportier Range Rover has. Every surface is still coated with leather, but you sit low, shallow windows surrounding you, in this Range Rover Sport.
Big supercharged TD V6 in front of you growling away as you floor the throttle, changing direction like something of its size and bulk most definitely should not, this power hungry behemoth is an engineering marvel…

Audi RS6

Be very careful. This in no ordinary estate car. If you stick your Labrador in the boot, then floor the accelerator, you’ll be cleaning Rover off the rear window. Audi went a bit bonkers with this latest RS6. They went to sister company Lamborghini and took the Gallardo’s 5.0 V10 engine – but that wasn’t powerful enough for them, so they stuck two turbos on it. The result? 572bhp – that’s more than most supercars, in a nice big 5dr estate.  Its sounds like a Lambo, and goes like a Lambo – be very afraid.

Lotus Exige Cup 260

The true epitome of the Lotus brand philosophy of "performance through light weight", the Exige Cup 260 is one of the most exhilarating, focused and pure sportscars on the road today.

Take the significant weight savings introduced in last year's model, extensive body and aerodynamic improvements as introduced on the 2010 Exige, together with some exciting new components and technologies and you have the purest Exige yet.

The Giant-Killer. Godzilla.

This latest in the long line of Nissan’s GT-Rs has received a different nickname from everyone that drives it, and for good reason. This GT-R not only beats the established players, it takes the rule book and does a burn-out right on top of it. £30,000 cheaper than a 911 Turbo, yet more powerful, better handling, and quicker around the Nurburgring. A driving gadget show, every bit of new tech is included on this Jap toy, from the twin-clutch gearbox, through the on-board g-meter, to the super-trick 4wd system.

There’s a new king of the supercars, and it’s a Nissan…

Gran Turismo – two of the most evocative words in petrolhead lore. They conjure images of Italian sportscars winding through the Stelvio Pass on the way to a lunchtime meeting with a glamorous model.

Styled by Pininfarina, the famous Italian house of design, the new car evolves the style created by the Maserati Coupe, taking the overall proportions of its ancestor and adding an even more lithe and sinuous look.

This Maserati is no exception, with styling so sublime, even the most fervent eco-driver would crumble in front of its beauty. And a 4.2 litre V8 giving out rich, deep burbles and rasps as you cut the continent into tiny chunks of power-turn-brake-power…

Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0

3.0 litre V6 turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine with six-speed automatic gearbox 180kw.

The new highly efficient SDV6 Advanced Sequential Turbo Diesel engine features unique parallel sequential turbochargers. Used for the first time in a V-engine, the first turbo optimises responsiveness by delivering increased torque at very low revs thus minimising symptoms of turbo lag, whilst the second turbo minimises steep power fade at higher revs.

An old saying needs to be re-written for this Merc. ‘Jack of all trades, master of them all’ is how it should read when applied to this SL63 AMG.

The masters at AMG have again breathed their magic on the SL, giving it the new 6.3 V8, putting 518bhp onto the straining tarmac, and a noise to wake the dead. Cruise around with the roof down, auto ‘box softly changing, enjoying the sun, or raise the roof, engage Sport mode, and the beast awakens, tearing down twisty roads,  paddles flicking through the gearbox, hearing the banshee wailing from the rear...
