Jaguar reveals the XFR-S Sportbrake

They said they would never make it. Thankfully they lied!
Jaguar has revealed the car they’ve always said would never exist – a high performance XF estate ahead of the public reveal at the Geneva Motor Show next week. But instead of releasing a hot XFR Sportbrake they’ve gone straight for the throat of the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes E63 AMG Estate by creating the XFR-S Sportbrake.
Based on the XFR-S saloon, the Sportbrake gets the same supercharged 5.0 litre V8 engine producing 542 bhp and 502 lb/ft of torque. This means the capacious estate can sprint from 0 – 62 mph in 4.6 seconds on the way to a limited 186 mph top speed. So not as quick as the RS6 but then it is only rear wheel drive so won’t be as quick off the line.
Where (we think) the XFR-S Sportbrake scores points over the rivals though, is looks. The XF Sportbrake is easily the best looking estate car on sale, so beefing it up with the added aggression of the R-S makes it a very good looking car. At the front there are huge air intake and a carbon lower splitter, with the standard jaguar grille now black mesh. Chunkier side skirts visually lower the car a touch, while at the rear there is a carbon diffuser sitting between the quad exhaust pipes. A set of rather over-done 20” black and machined silver alloy wheels are the finishing touch, though thankfully they can be ordered in gloss black or plain silver.
There have been changes to the rear suspension to manage the extra mass of the Sportbrake body, while there have also been modifications to the dynamic systems. Jaguar’s High Performance Braking System also features, with 380 mm ventilated discs.
The 2015 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake goes on sale in April at £82,495 which puts it between the price of the RS6 and the E63, though it comes with a lot more standard specification than the RS6.
