Geneva Motor Show 2014: All-new Audi TT & TT-S revealed

Think evolution, not revolution…
The all-new 2015 Audi TT has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show today, with a bold new face but an evolutionary body design. This is no great surprise though, given that the TT has sold in huge numbers since its introduction in 1998.
Though the exterior style is instantly recognisable as a TT and a clear evolution from the previous model, there are hints – especially in the rear ¾ view – of the original TT Mk1 which was thought of as the cleaner design. Up front there is a new sharply cornered six-point grille and trapezoidal headlights with bold LED graphics and large air intakes. For the first time the four-ring Audi badge moves to the bonnet instead of in the grille. All we have images of is the higher power TT-S variant, which receives chrome bars on the grille, larger intakes and satin silver finishing touches elsewhere. The side profile is almost identical to the previous TT, but at the rear there is a new ridge atop the lights and on the TT-S, a diffuser with quad exhausts. The standard TT gets two exhaust tips located in the centre.
The big change comes in the interior though, with a thoroughly redesigned driver interface. Gone are the separate screens for info, satnav etc, replaced by one large 12” TFT screen where the dials would normally be. This screen changes depending on what the driver wants to see, be that a set of dials, dynamics setup, radio/volume or SatNav. This is particularly impressive as you can see the whole screen as a map with the dials floating above it. The aircon controls are moved to small screens and dials located in the centre of the air vents.
The new TT has a slightly smaller body, but a longer wheelbase thanks to the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, and results in a c.50kg weight saving over the previous generation.
At launch there will be three four cylinder engines to choose from. Up first is a 2.0 litre turbodiesel with 181 bhp and 280 lb/ft of torque which offers average fuel consumption of 67 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 110 g/km. The diesel engine will only be available in front wheel drive.
The petrol lineup starts with a 2.0 litre turbo in the base TT with 227 bhp and 273 lb/ft which is front wheel drive as standard with optional Quattro four wheel drive, while the TT-S gets a 306 bhp and 280 lb/ft version of the same engine and is four wheel drive. All engines can be had with the standard six speed manual gearbox or optional six speed dual clutch S-tronic gearbox.
The new TT goes on sale in August, with prices expected to be revealed later this week.
