Porsche reveals the Boxster & Cayman GTS

More power, more kit, awful press photos!
Porsche has revealed range-topping GTS models for the Boxster and Cayman, adding a little more performance and sporting intent to the already popular coupe and convertible. Until now there have only been S variants of both models, with the Cayman getting the hardcore R variant later in the previous model’s life. Porsche sees the GTS as the next logical step in performance, though we still expect a stripped out Cayman R to come out in a couple of years.
Both models are fitted with the 3.4 litre flat-six engine which puts out 15 bhp more than the S variants – this means 325 bhp in the Boxster GTS and 335 bhp in the Cayman GTS. This power jump means that they get to 62 mph in 4.7 and 4.6 seconds respectively and onto top speeds of 175 and 177 mph.
Porsche are keen to stress that this isn’t just a power boost though, as they both get lots of kit thrown in including the Sport Chrono package and PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) which has lowered suspension and adaptive dampers.
Visually the GTSs are distinguished by revised front and rear bumpers, darkened bi-xenon headlights and dark grey 20-inch Carrera alloys. Inside there is leather and alcantara interior trim with GTS logos.
Both models go on sale in May priced at £52,879 for the Boxster GTS and £55,397 for the Cayman GTS. This actually represents pretty good value for money – if you add the extra kit you receive to the Cayman S, the price jumps from £47,954 to £54,530 – so in reality you’re only paying £867 for the extra power and styling. Not bad…
