BMW has decided to mark the 30th anniversary of the M5 with a new limited edition model which is the most powerful M5 made so far. It takes the recently launched M5 Competition Pack and adds a few more toys, more power and some unique touches to make this one-of-300 model very special indeed.

First up, the powerplant gets a bit of a steroid boost, with the 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 now producing 592 bhp, which is 25 bhp more than before. This was achieved by tweaks to the engine management system and more boost pressure. So whereas the M5 is still a portly 1870 kg the added power means the 0 – 62 mph sprint is now dealt with in 3.9 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155 mph as standard or 190 mph if the M-Driver Package is specified. It’s likely that this will be standard on UK cars.

Visually the M5 30 Jahre gets a satin silver paint job, dark chrome throughout the bodywork and ’30 Jahre’ badges on the front wings, sills and seat backs. It sits on the 20-inch alloy wheels and 10 mm lower suspension from the M5 Competition Pack and certainly has a menacing look.

Prices and availability will be confirmed shortly
