ITH – Fully Loaded Execs {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

27 Jun 2018

Before we start this, let me just say – I know. I know, okay? Most people expect to see supercars or sports cars in the ITH section and these are most certainly not that. But the whole point of BOTB is to win your dream car and for a lot of people that is a large, comfy executive car with loads of kit as standard and so we’re always here to help! We’ve got a pretty broad scope here this week, from a super luxurious hybrid Range Rover to a punchy underdog that really shouldn’t be underestimated…

Range Rover Sport P400e Autobiography

It’s no real surprise that the Queen has chosen the new Range Rover to get her around her estates, they have an unparalleled mix of luxury, style and Britishness and are the perfect vehicle for going off-road while still feeling like you’re in a drawing room. They have always been perfect but now especially with this new Hybrid P400e model. You get all the luxury and comfort of a Range Rover Sport – and there really is nothing like them on earth in that respect (apart from maybe the full-size RR) – combined with insanely good economy over 100mpg, a mere parp of CO2 out of the back and the ability to go 31 miles on electric only. That’s enough for most people when driving around town so you won’t even trouble the petrol motor half the time, it really is the perfect all-round car. It’s no Prius when it comes to performance either, with a combined 400bhp it won’t let Liz down when she needs to get across the fields in a hurry.

Audi A8 55 TFSi

With the new A8, Audi has decided to abandon all pretence of sportiness, instead ensuring that the A8 is the closest you can get to a Rolls Royce without having to spend £250k. The styling has been made a little more sedate than the last model too, with the now-standard wide mouth Audi grille up front, but still keeping the A8’s trademark low roofline. The inside is where this new A8 really impresses though, with every bit of technology that even a dedicated sci-fi nerd could only dream of. Being an Audi there is of course their famous quattro AWD system which helps the power from the 3.0 V6 petrol engine to get to the ground via the 8spd auto gearbox. Extensive use of aluminium keeps the weight down, so the 336bhp makes light work of 0-62mph sprints and deals with them in 5.6 seconds. Pure luxury, class and opulence – the new A8 really has it all.

Skoda Superb Sportline Plus 280 DSG

Now in its third generation, the Skoda Superb may have a slightly silly name but it has grown into the kind of executive hatchback that has really put the frighteners on BMW, Audi and Mercedes. And yes, that was correct – it’s a hatchback even though it looks like a saloon. This latest generation has seriously sharp looks, with a classy front end and sharp creaselines throughout the bodywork, made even better by the Sportline trim level. This brings a blacked out grille and mirrors, rear lip spoiler and some very nice 19-inch alloys along with subtly lowered suspension. The Superb’s incredible practicality continues too, with masses of rear legroom, that massive boot with easy entry and a spacious cabin. But this is no taxi-rank spec Superb, this Sportline Plus model gets loads of kit as standard, plus it packs a 2.0 litre turbo engine producing 277bhp, sent to all four wheels via a DSG dual clutch gearbox. Handling-wise the Superb really is a match for the German Big Three and as a whole package is just incredible value.

BMW 540i M-Sport Touring

Back in the early 2000’s a BMW 540i was a RWD V8 powered super saloon that was pinnacle of what we expected of the Bavarian manufacturer. But times they are a-changin’ and now the 540i comes with BMW’s xDrive AWD system and that 40i bit now means a 336bhp 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six. With M-Sport spec comes a nice set of 19-inch alloys (with 20-inchers optional), a more aggressive front end design and M-Sport suspension that means this big estate handles like a much smaller car. There’s a huge amount of technology available in the new 5-Series, in fact it puts even the 7-Series to shame with key-controlled self-parking and gesture control just two tech showcases on offer. With a huge estate body as well, this 540i Touring has all the practicality you could ever want, along with performance, luxury and style.
