ITH – Modified Monsters – The Revenge! {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

16 Aug 2018

There are two types of car enthusiast in this world. Those who keep their cars completely standard and would never even dream of adding non-original windscreen wiper blades, and those who buy a car and drive it straight home and start adding the wheels, air filter, intake, spoilers and other bits they bought before the car even arrived. The tuners.

Those are the people we’re aiming this week’s ITH at – those who love cars but always want a little more… after all, car manufacturers always play it a little safe so why not give them a little boost? (sometimes literally). So we’ve chosen four already-fantastic cars that have been worked over by some very reputable tuning companies to give you faster, louder, more OTT versions. I’ll take the BBR Turbo MX-5 please….

Litchfield GT-R Track Edition

Hold on tight folks – Godzilla has had an upgrade! The Nissan GT-R is always a hugely popular car in our Dream Car Competition, but we couldn’t ignore the fact that a huge amount of GT-R owners (in the region of 60%) tune their cars with aftermarket parts. But where to go to get ‘our’ tuned GT-R? It could only be one place really – the company that has been tuning GT-Rs longer than anyone else with a reputation for nothing but the highest quality and workmanship – Litchfield Motors. There are plenty of different upgrade packages they do, up to an eye-watering 755bhp (!!!) but this week we’ve added something very special – their brand new take on the GT-R Track Edition by Nismo. This latest version takes the already fantastic base car and adds Nismo body bonding which makes the body far more rigid, some lightweight 20” forged RAYS alloy wheels and a carbon fibre rear spoiler. To this new track spec, Litchfield add their special Bilstein Damptronic dampers which along with a 10mm increased track work with the stiffer body to give the best control you can have from a GT-R, while visually they add their LM20 carbon splitter and carbon rear diffuser insert too. They also tweak the suspension geometry and add their own anti-roll bars so this GT-R holds the road (and track) like nothing before it. Oh and of course there is the engine work which results in 631bhp and 813Nm of torque – staggering numbers. This all comes together to give you a ridiculously fast (hitting 62mph in 2.8 seconds) GT-R that handles and flows down the road like little else. And as if all that wasn’t enough, all the work has a 3yr warranty so no worries about the reliability of tuned cars. We think this is one of the most exciting cars we’ve ever featured, so go get some tickets while you can!

ABT TT RS-R

We’re pretty sure that nobody has ever got in an Audi TT RS and thought “wow, this small coupe with 400hp feels a tad sluggish” – but that doesn’t stop people always wanting more and that is where ABT come into the equation. You see they take the TT RS and start with the engine, tweaking the ECU and cooling and exhaust system to ensure that it delivers a reliable 500hp. Yes, you read that correctly – five hundred horsepower in a little Audi TT. You would assume this gives some pretty astonishing performance figures and you’d be right – it hits 62mph in just 3.4 seconds – that’s supercar fast. It also tops out at 184mph, but the in-gear performance is what will blow your mind. As with our previous ABT offerings the TT RS-R isn’t just about the performance though, they also enhance the look as well with lashings of carbon fibre. There’s a front spoiler, front canards, front grille add-on, side skirt add-ons, side blades, rear blades, rear diffuser add-on and a nifty fuel cap insert all made of glorious carbon fibre. Then to finish off the look there are some 20-inch ABT Sport GR20 alloy wheels. The interior also gets a few nice touches too with some TT RS-R badges and additional bits of trim. This all adds up to give you a TT RS that is not only faster, but it looks better, holds the road better and sounds even more incredible – it really is a win-win and you can be comfortable in the knowledge that nothing this side of a serious supercar will be quicker than you.

Motech BMW M140i

Unlike the other cars in this week’s In the Headlight’s promotion, the Motech Edition M140i doesn’t have any engine tuning, instead it’s all about the handling. Now the M140i isn’t exactly a badly handling car, the opposite in fact, but as ever production cars always have to be compromised in the way they ride, price of parts etc so Motech have decided to make the best M140i you can buy as a package. So they replace the springs, add a strut brace, add spacers and do a full geometry setup to turn the M140i into a proper b-road weapon. You also get some audio improvements thanks to a new exhaust and air filter, while the outside gets some visual enhancements too. It may look standard but this Motech Edition will surprise quite a few people…

BBR MX-5 Turbo Stage 1

The latest ‘ND’ generation Mazda MX-5 is one of the best handling cars on sale today in any price bracket. The combination of light weight, small body and great steering, along with a playful chassis setup and truly exotic styling means that it’s incredibly popular. The only thing it is lacking is power with the standard car putting out 158bhp. Sure it feels quick enough thanks to the low curb weight, but it needs a little boost – step up BBR. BBR GTi have been tuning and turbocharging cars since the 70’s and MX-5’s since the Mk1 so it makes sense they’d have a go with the new model. And what a go they’ve had – their turbo kit boosts power to 258bhp, which gives a power/weight ratio of 240bhp/tonne. This means improved acceleration, chopping 2 seconds off the 0-62mph time. But this isn’t just an engine od, we also add the exhaust, suspension, aero pack and wheels to make this the ultimate MX-5.

These fantastic tuned cars are only available until midnight on Sunday, so get your tickets right here while you still can!
