Porsche are pushing ahead with their new ‘GTS’ moniker recently, with it now stretching across the whole range – there’s now a Boxster, Cayman, Panamera, 911 and Cayenne GTS – and we can only assume there’s a Macan GTS on the way soon.

In previous ranges the GTS tag used to mean a more hardcore model and that’s very much still the case here, though it generally now means the most popular options are selected for you, for less than they would cost. So effectively they represent a ‘best of’ across the range.

The old Cayenne GTS used a tuned version of the 4.8 litre V8, but this new model shows a nods to the current trend for down-sizing with a new 3.6 litre twin-turbo V6 (as seen in the Macan Turbo) producing 434 bhp and 443 lb/ft of torque – increases of 20 bhp and 63 lb/ft over the V8. The new power means 0 – 62 mph is dealt with in 5.2 seconds on the way to a 162 mph top speed.

The additional spec the GTS gets includes a retuned Porsche Active Stability Management system which is lowered by 24 mm on its steel springs, larger brakes from the Cayenne Turbo, unique 20-inch alloy wheels and the front end styling from the Turbo model. It aims to be the most focused driving Cayenne whilst the new engine should also bring decent economy instead of the crippling 18mpg of the Turbo.

The Cayenne GTS is on sale now for £72,523
