Mercedes reveals the Concept Coupe SUV {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

Ahead of the Beijing Motor Show next week, Mercedes has revealed a very thinly veiled concept car named the Concept Coupe SUV. Though don’t let the ‘concept’ tag fool you – this is, bar the usual concept trinkets – the new MLC model that will go head to head with the new BMW X6 in 2015.

The X6 is incredibly popular in the US in particular, so we can understand why they would make a direct rival – BMW and Mercedes seem to be in a niche war where they are determined to fill every possible small niche and if there isn’t one, create it. But for us here at BOTB this Merc concept stands out because it’s one of the worst proportioned and dare we say ugly vehicles we’ve seen in a long time.

We’ve only been given one image, therefore we can assume that this is the MLC’s best angle, but we just see a big bloated front end with a high-sided, short windowed body and a sloping tail. It looks like someone has slapped a CLA body on an ML, but not in a good way. We just really can’t get on with the looks. Hopefully it’ll be better in the metal.

Engines are expected to follow the ML, so there will be a 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel MLC350 CDi model, maybe an MLC400 Hybrid model and then the expected MLC63 AMG and MLC65 AMG fire breathing V8 petrol beasts.

We normally say we’re looking forward to seeing the production car revealed, but not this time…
