Audi RS4 Avant

Audi RS4 Avant Airport

REVIEW

We can hear a collective cheer sound across the globe – the RS4 is back on BOTB! It was a sad day when the old RS4 Avant went out of production, it was such a great all-round car and a massively popular car on BOTB. But after a little break Audi finally revealed the new RS4 Avant at the Frankfurt Motor Show and what a car it is. Visually it knocks it out of the park – the usual flared RS wheel arches are there again, but this time with some delicious surfacing that really makes them a design feature and stand out. The front end has big intakes and a low splitter, which with the wider wings makes it look incredibly aggressive, while the back has a diffuser and of course the trademark RS oval exhaust pipes. The noise coming out of those pipes will be a little different this time though as the thundering V8 has been replaced much as it was in the RS5 by a 2.9 litre twin turbo V6. That lump produces the same 444bhp as the V8 but now has 600Nm of torque – a big increase. This means performance is crazy – 0-62mph officially takes 4.1 seconds but knowing Audi that will be below 4 seconds in real life. There’s an 8-speed paddle shift gearbox now that transmits power to all four wheels as expected, which means you can enjoy that power in all weather conditions. Add in the massive estate boot and incredible interior and you have the most complete car on sale today.
