BMW e46 M3 CSL

BMW e46 M3 CSL

REVIEW

There are few cars as loved by enthusiasts as the BMW M3. The early e36 models have a keen following but they are somewhat fragile now (see our videos with CarThrottle for proof!) – the clever money is now in that car’s successor – the e46 M3, especially the rare CSL model. Using a 3.2 litre straight six engine, with a lightweight crankshaft and graphite coated aluminium pistons combined with a carbon fibre airbox it revved to 8000rpm and put out 355bhp. Performance was brisk thanks to the 1340kg kerb weight, with 0-62mph taking just 4.9 seconds. But the raw numbers only tell part of the story with the e46 M3 CSL – the engine sings and screams its way through the rev range, there’s a delicious howl from the exhausts and the steering and handling are just sublime. Visually the CSL got a new front bumper with carbon aero blades and offset intake, a gorgeous ducktail spoiler and iconic new wheel design. Add in the fact that there are four very usable seats and a big boot, combined with the limited production numbers and you can see why the CSL has such a huge following…

Winner can choose an e46 M3 CSL up to the value of £55,000.
