REVIEW

The M4 is a huge success for BMW and hugely popular in our competition, for good reason. The combination of great handling, lots of power and four seat practicality makes the M4 hard to beat. Some journalists are critical of the engine and spiky handling though. But then BMW launched the limited run M4 GTS, with more power, lighter weight and a far more focused driving experience that addressed all the criticisms of the standard car. However the GTS came in at around £130,000 which despite the water-injected 495bhp engine was a lot of money for a tweaked £55,000 car.  Now BMW has taken what it learned on the GTS and applied it to a production model – the M4 CS. There’s a tweaked version of the twin-turbo 3.0 litre straight six so it now produces 454bhp along with more torque, while the suspension uses the same stiffer springs and dampers as the Competition Pack. Visually there is a new carbon front splitter and carbon bootlid spoiler along with new, lighter 19-inch alloy wheels in a stunning twin-five spoke design, while the CS offers two new paint finishes as well. Put all this together and you get the best M4 yet and one that looks and drives like nothing else.
