That's right - for 14yrs Audi and Mercedes have had the super fast estate market to themselves with the RS6 and E63S, but now BMW has finally jumped back in with the new M5 Touring and boy oh boy have they gone big!
For this new G99-generation M5 Touring, BMW has gone all-out. The 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 is retained from the last-gen saloon, but now it’s paired with an 18kWh battery and 196bhp electric motor to give a staggering 717bhp and a truly insane 1000Nm of torque. That battery means if you want to, you can also do 45 miles on pure EV power.
Weight has increased thanks to the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, but performance is still punishing with 0-62mph coming up in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 186mph if you specify the M-Drivers Package.
Visually the new M5 Touring takes the styling seen on the i5 M60 Touring, but adds wider front and rear wings, lower, wider, more aggressive bumpers, quad exhausts and more aggressive wheels to give some serious presence on the road.
Inside there are all the latest design and tech offerings and a huge amount of room.
