The BMW X5 has undoubtedly been the daddy of the SUV market ever since it came out in 1999. Others have tried to beat it, even emulate it, but the X5 has always remained at the top of the SUV charts world-over.
Now on generation 4.5, the X5 aims to keep that spot with great looks, typically perfect BMW handling, strong economy and athletic performance - and you could win one!
With the 294 bhp 3.0 straight-six turbo diesel engine, this xDrive30d model has enough performance to worry a hot hatch driver while happily returning 40 mpg with ease. As an all-around family car, the X5 does take some beating.
For 2023 the X5 gets a mild exterior facelift, with new bumpers and headlights to align with the sleeker new-look 3-Series. The inside gets a major glow-up, though, with the enormous curved dash and infotainment screen seen on the new M3 and i4, running BMW's excellent new iDrive8 system.
