How do you fancy winning the car that changed AMG’s fortunes? When the Mercedes SL55 AMG came out in 2002 it hit the performance car world like a sledgehammer.
It offered pretty much all things to all people – it was a proper coupe or convertible thanks to the hardtop, it was a great GT car thanks to the adaptive suspension, and also a thundering sports car thanks again to that suspension, along with the engine they installed.
Speaking of which, it needs its own paragraph – a 5.4 litre, supercharged V8 engine that at launch put out 468bhp, later going up to 493 and even 510 at the end of its life – but more interestingly it also had 750Nm of torque.
That meant that even with its rather hefty weight, it could perform like supercars costing twice the amount and all while emitting the most delicious symphony of noise from the exhausts – a blaring, snarling V8 rumble and growl that could be heard streets away.
It was the defining sports car of the early 2000’s.
The winner can choose a Mercedes SL55 AMG from the used market up to the value of £25,000.
