Porsche 718 Boxster GTS

Porsche 718 Boxster GTS Airport

REVIEW

In 2016 Porsche decided they would bow to the ever-present pressures to make cars more economical and cleaner, and downsized all of their engines. The 911 gained a 3.0 litre turbo engine, while the Cayman and Boxster gained new flat-four turbo engines and a ‘718’ tag at the start of their name. The Porsche purists were all up in arms, but these engines were more powerful, had more torque, better economy and put out less CO2 – the only downside was they didn’t sound as good. But with the addition of the Porsche Sports Exhaust even that was mostly fixed. So now Porsche has released the GTS model which sits between the S and the limited R/Spyder models and aims to give you a more focused and better equipped sports car for your money. As with all GTS models, Porsche basically hands picks the best options on the 718 Boxster S and makes them standard – so there’s Porsche Active Suspension Management, Sports Exhaust, Sport Chrono and the Track Precision App to name just a few, along with externally some 20” alloy wheels and the Sport Design bodykit – all of which add up to far more than the extra over the S model without adding in the extra 15bhp you get as well from the mildly tweaked 2.5 litre flat-four turbo power plant. So the 718 Boxster GTS is better looking, faster, better equipped and a whole lot cooler than the S – it’s a no brainer really! Get in, drop the roof and enjoy…
