The previous generation of Cayman GT4 is a tough act to follow – it was (and still is) regarded by many as the best handling Porsche to have come out in the last 20yrs thanks to the mid-engine layout and Porsche GT department tweaks. Oh, and the 3.8-litre flat-six was a peach too. But then Porsche went all flat-four turbo for the revised 718 ranges and it was thought to be highly unlikely that the new GT4 would avoid having turbos fitted.
But Porsche do like to keep us on our toes and here sits the 718 Cayman GT4 with an amazing 4.0 litre naturally aspirated flat-six behind the seats producing a mammoth 414bhp. Aerodynamics have been tweaked, it may look broadly the same but there’s a lot more downforce thanks to the re-profiled front bumper and splitter, an effective rear diffuser and a larger rear wing.
Performance is electrifying as you’d expect, but with more parts borrowed from the GT3 and some serious magic from their engineers, this is set to be the best performance car of 2020. The Competition don't stand a chance.
