The Porsche 911 has throughout its history been about evolution rather than revolution. The shape has stayed broadly the same, as has the layout and the use of the flat-six engine. But there was a step-change with the 996 variant in 1998 when it went from air cooled to water cooled. Well now there’s been another change with the 991 Gen 2 as all the Targa models now adopt a new 3.0 twin turbo flat-six engine. There are small exterior tweaks to keep it fresh, but the big news is that new engine. This Targa 4 model now gets 366bhp which thanks to the 4WD system means 4.7 seconds to 62mph and a top speed of 178mph – incredible stats for the non-S model – while you can enjoy the new sound of the turbo engine with the really cool folding roof in this Targa version. The most complete sports car just got even better…
