Seat Cupra Ateca

Seat Cupra Ateca

REVIEW

Okay, to start with, this technically isn’t a Seat Cupra Ateca, it’s just a Cupra Ateca. The Cupra brand was split off into its own thing last year and the Ateca was their first fully branded car, hence the rather aggressive and funky new logo and no Seat badges anywhere. This helps with the positioning as a sportier, high performance brand within the VW Group and the Ateca is a good example of that. Yes, from the outside it may look like a normal family SUV but underneath – this is basically a Golf R. The familiar EA888 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo engine produces 296bhp and goes to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox. It can sprint to 62mph in 5.3 seconds and onto a 153mph top speed, all while making a very fruity noise from the quad exhausts. This is the highest specced Ateca you can buy, with the Sound and Comfort Pack (which brings Adaptive cruise control, heated seats, electric tailgate and Beats audio) and the Design Pack that features bronze detailing to the wheels, CUPRA branded Brembo brakes and gloss black accents elsewhere. It certainly looks the part and having driven this Ateca we can confirm it’s a riot to drive while still being practical and sensible when you want it to. The perfect all rounder? You decide!
