« Back Caterham 620R
Colin Chapman; the founder of Lotus and the man behind the original Seven, later sold to Caterham, had a very famous quote - "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere" and this has been held true by Caterham with the Seven.
But at the top of the tree they have always offered a truly insane car – one that adds lightness as much as possible AND adds power. Until now that has always been the R500, but no longer. Step forward the 620R.
With a kerb weight of 500 kg and a 2.0 litre engine producing 310 bhp that nomenclature has a real basis – a staggering power to weight ratio of 620 bhp/tonne. To put that into perspective the Bugatti Veyron has ‘just’ 521 bhp/tonne. The comparison to the £1m hypercar doesn’t end there either – thanks to the lightweight the 620R manages the 0 – 62 mph sprint in an identical 2.79 seconds.
Staggering performance and the 620R won’t disappoint in the bends either, with Caterham’s race-derived suspension and sticky semi-slick tyres.
Probably the best point-to-point supercar out there - and you could win one in the BOTB Midweek car competition!
