These days everything seems to be getting bigger and cars like the Mercedes E63S Estate and new Audi RS6 are huge cars – even the RS4 is pretty massive. So this is where Mercedes has come in with what may well be the ultimate everyday performance car – the CLA45S Shooting Brake. Okay, it isn’t as practical as a traditional estate car, but we’d happily sacrifice a little boot space when it looks this good.
As per the other ‘45S models under the bonnet sits an incredible 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produces a staggering 415bhp and 500Nm of torque. That’s enough to propel this sleek shooting brake to 62mph in just 4.0 seconds which is enough to worry a lot of supercars. Visually the CLA45S gets the AMG Panamericana grille for a lot more aggression at the front, while the front bumper gains huge intakes and grilles.
As with the A45-S, there’s the option of an aero pack as well which adds the seriously cool canards to the front bumper and an extended splitter along with a bigger rear spoiler (shown in images, but this is a £6000 option with the Plus pack). At the rear, the quad exhaust pipes really show that this small shooting brake means business and that’s before anyone has heard the vicious bark they emit. We really would love one of these!
