The Mini Cooper is one of the most popular and coolest cars on sale today, with a timeless style and classless feel to it – you could pull up to a McDonalds or to a 5-Star restaurant in one and nobody would bat an eyelid. They tend to be driven in town and cities a lot though, so why sit there burning fuel when you could sit in your cool Mini running purely on electric power!
Mini has teased an EV Mini before, but this Mini Electric (also known as the Mini Cooper SE in other markets) is their first attempt at a proper production EV. The looks are just like the normal Cooper S, but with a few nods to the EV drivetrain like the new grille and the green detailing, along with the funky new alloy wheel design – though as with all Minis you can spec it to look however you want. The power of 181bhp isn’t too much below the Cooper S and 0-62mph takes 7.2 seconds, more than enough for nipping around town.
The 32.6kWh battery gives a range of around 130 miles which isn’t huge, but again fine if it’ll only be doing short journeys – plus Mini wanted a smaller battery to keep weight down and retain that legendary Mini go-kart handling. Expect to see a lot of these around!
And you could have one on your drive simply by entering the BOTB Midweek Car Competition!
