« Back Peugeot 508 PSE
Peugeot has a rich history of creating fun hot saloons – the 405 Mi16 was a legendary car in the 90’s and now Peugeot are back with a new department and a new model.
The people in charge of fun Pugs are now Peugeot Sport Engineering and the car they’ve worked on first is the 508, Peugeot’s new family saloon. But as well as being their first performance car in a while, this one is their first performance hybrid too…
Look at the stats of 355bhp and 520Nm and then the fact that it’s a 1.6 litre engine and that simply doesn’t compute, until you realise that this 508 PSE is a plug-in hybrid. So there is a 197bhp petrol 1.6 turbo engine, but then there’s a small battery pack and two motors – one on each axle – which all combine to give that 355bhp number.
So that means you have an AWD family saloon that can sprint to 62mph in 5.2 seconds, yet can also achieve over 100mpg and emit just 46g/km of CO2 – seriously impressive numbers.
Visually PSE have got it spot on as well, the 508 was always a pretty car but the sportier additions like bigger wheels, more aggressive nose and the bright green accents means it really stands out as something special.
