« Back Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge
Volvo has been on a roll of late, with their estates and SUVs carving their own stylish niche as the intelligent choice in a crowded marketplace. The XC90 and XC60 are great cars, but arguably their best looking SUV is the boxy little XC40, even more so in their latest Recharge trim. The grille is now blanked off as the airflow isn't needed, but this actually adds to the looks, giving the nose a more Scandinavian minimalist look.
The airflow isn't needed because this XC40 is entirely battery powered, yet conversely is the most powerful and fastest XC40 yet. You see there are two motors that produce 402bhp and 660Nm in a tiny little SUV body (a drivetrain and basic chassis chared with the Polestar 2) which means 0-62mph comes up in just 4.9 seconds.
There's a decent sized 75kWh battery too, so the WLTP rating is 260 miles for the range - that's a realistic 210-220 in the real world. And should you need to charge it has the capability to go from 10-80% in just 33mins, enough time to go to the loo, grab a coffee and a bite to eat and you've magically got another 150 miles.
This is a small SUV in which you can have your cake and eat it – practicality, performance, economy and style all in one vehicle.
And you can win one in the BOTB Midweek Car Competition!
