Geneva Motor Show 2014: Maserati Alfieri Concept

Could this be their F-Type Coupe rival?

Maser Alfieri Concept Top

At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Maserati decided to surprise everyone and show off the Alfieri concept car that had remained hidden from the world – a very rare feat to achieve. What they showed was a small, beautifully styled coupe that could easily make production today – and we hear it will.

Featuring a design that is inspired by 1950’s Maserati coupes, the Alfieri also bares a passing resemblance in proportions to the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, which gives big hints to the target market for the future production car. Up front there’s a bold interpretation of the Maserati grille, with six vertical strakes and a large trident badge, flanked by air intakes and some extremely aggressive LED headlights. Prominent wings flow down and up again over the rear wheels to a kamm-tail rear. This sharply cut off back end features deeply sculpted air vents and sleek rear lights, with twin exhaust pipes at the bottom. It truly is a stunning piece of design and on looks alone is the match for the F-Type Coupe, our current favourite coupe.

The concept is powered by the GranTurismo’s 4.7 litre V8 with 460 bhp, though the much smaller platform means the Alfieri would use that power to much better effect. This means better acceleration, economy and emissions.

We can expect the Alfieri to evolve into a production car by this time next year, hopefully debuting at next year’s Geneva show.
