Basingstoke single dad scoops £20,000 prize from 70p ticket including luxury holiday to Barbados {{favouriteCount}}

A single dad from Hampshire was left speechless after discovering he'd won a £20,000 prize after purchasing a 70p ticket. Nathan Jones, 31, from Basingstoke received a visit from BOTB’s Sean Hall to tell him that as this week’s Midweek Lifestyle Winner he’s not only £15,000 richer but he’s also heading off on a luxury holiday to the Caribbean.

To enter the Midweek Lifestyle Competition, Nathan was required to answer a skilled question, before then being randomly selected from all the correct entries. The father-of-two, who paid just 70p for his ticket to enter, explained he’s not been on holiday for five years.

He said: "I don't believe it! We’ve had a tricky few years with Covid and family issues. This money will help us get back on our feet.”

Nathan is a single father to two young boys and although currently unemployed, he is trained as a fibre optics engineer. Speaking with Sean, he said: "We all celebrated our birthdays in May, but we didn’t have much money to celebrate, I think some late birthday presents are definitely in order. My car has recently broken down, too, so the cash will come in handy for that. I’m thinking about getting a camper van for us to use for holidays.”

Sean, who is part of the team surprising BOTB winners each week, said: “Nathan sounds like a really deserving winner and I was thrilled to be the one to give him the good news. He sounds like he has some great plans for the cash!”
