Harlow builder wins £75,000 Porsche with 6p competition
"Hardworking" builder and father-to-be Michael Barton was on-site when he learned he had won a £75,000 Porsche.
The 39-year-old from Harlow, Essex, scooped the prize in a competition costing just 6p, run by online company BOTB.
Mr Barton was working on an extension when BOTB presenter Katie Knight arrived to break the news, revealing the Porsche 911, finished in bright red, parked nearby.
Mr Barton said: "I’m absolutely shaking.
"Nothing like this ever happens to me. It’s amazing.
"It couldn’t have come at a better time – we’ve got a baby due in four weeks. It’s a very exciting time for us."
A Liverpool fan, he was particularly pleased with the car’s colour.
Mr Barton said: "I couldn’t have picked a better colour – this is a bit of me.
"The whole experience has been surreal.
"I’ve seen videos of other winners online and thought I would give it a go.
"I’m a hardworking man, and the past few months I’ve really been hoping something good would happen."
Despite his excitement, Mr Barton said he is likely to take the cash alternative to put towards a house deposit.
He said: "This is going to help me progress to the next stage of where I want to be in my life."
Adding to the surprise, his partner revealed she had dreamt the night before that he won a shopping trolley.
BOTB presenter Katie Knight said: "Michael’s reaction was just brilliant – total disbelief and so much excitement.
"It’s a stunning car and such a head-turner, but with a baby on the way, I completely understand why he might take the cash.
"Either way, it’s an incredible prize for just 6p."
BOTB gives away a dream car every week, along with other lifestyle prizes.
The company is currently offering entrants the chance to win a £725,000 luxury holiday home and an Audi RS6 worth £69,000, both for just 99p per entry.
Founded in 1999, BOTB has given away more than £102 million worth of cars to date.
