A mother-of-two from Leicester said she "could not stop smiling” after winning a £53,000 VW campervan. Kalpana Pema, 42, described her success in BOTB’s Instant Wins Competition as a “huge weight off her shoulders”, as she was likely to opt for the cash alternative.

Kalpana, who works in food production, said she bought 10 tickets for the competition, and had “never won anything before”. BOTB said that an “emotional” Kalpana received a video call from presenter Christian Williams, who confirmed she was a winner.

Kalpana said: “I can’t believe it and can’t stop smiling. When it came through to say I had won I kept asking my husband if it was real and asked him to check it one more time.

“I’ve never won anything before, and we’re all very excited, especially my kids. My eldest said it’s like a dream come true!”

Despite winning the campervan, Kalpana said she was considering taking the cash alternative. She said: “It’s a huge amount of money, and we’re planning to put some in the kid’s savings as well as a family holiday. My dream would be to go to Switzerland.”

Car competitions company BOTB was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999, and has given away £70m worth of vehicles so far, according to a spokesperson. Christian said: “Kalpana was clearly very emotional when I phoned her, and I’m not sure the news of her big win had sunk in.

“It’s an amazing campervan which is perfect for families to enjoy some epic adventures. But it sounds like she is tempted to take the life-changing cash alternative and is planning to head on holiday with her family to celebrate.”
