Hadley Johnston, 66, was unpacking groceries when he received a video call from BOTB, telling him he had snagged a MW X5 xDrive30d M-Sport in its weekly draw. Hadley, who relies on public transport to get out and about, said winning the £72,000 car came at a perfect time and described it as the ‘pinnacle’ of his life. He said: “This is the pinnacle of my life and crowning glory for me. I have never won anything of value or anything this big before.

“I’ve been entering the competition for about three-and-a-half years and always held out hope one day I would win, and I’m so happy that I have.” Hadley said he’d never had a car he could ‘properly call his own’.

“I currently walk and use the bus and train, so the car is going to come in very handy for me,” he said.

“I like the format of the SUVs and wanted something with enough room to get all the bags in and ensure everyone is comfortable on long journeys.”

The BMW X5 xDrive30d M-Sport boasts an i6 turbo engine 294 break horsepower and a top speed of 155 mph. BOTB hands out a new luxury car each week as well as a lifestyle prize. The firm was founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch and has given away £64m in cars thus far. Will Cozens, a presenter at BOTB, congratulated Mr Johnston on winning the jackpot. Hadley told the firm he wanted his BMW in a blue or grey finish.mWill added: “It is a stunning vehicle which is described as a family car with athletic performance. I’m sure he is going to have a lot of fun once he gets behind the wheel.”
