A Coventry student thought he was still dreaming when he woke up today to find he’d just won a brand new Beemer and £10,000 in cash.

Lucky Hengqin Hu had to pinch himself when he answered the door of his student digs in the Stoke area of the city and was handed the keys to a BMW X5 worth £53,000.

All the 21-year-old could say was “wow!” when William Hindmarch, chief executive of online competition BOTB.com, told him: “We have a little surprise for you this morning.

“It’s all yours, congratulations!”

Hengqin had just got up when William and a cameraman turned up on the pretext of delivering some champagne.

He quickly grabbed a cardigan and was taken to a car park where he was shown his gleaming new wheels.

The student, who is from Shanghai, said: “It’s like a dream.

“Maybe my family and friends will have the same feeling with me, it’s just like a surprise.”

Hengqin had paid £3 for an online raffle ticket to be in with a chance of winning the prize.

“I never imagined I might win,” he said.

The automotive engineering student at Coventry University, who wants to work in the industry, has never owned his own car.

“Maybe I’ll head up to Scotland in this,” he said.

Hengqin, who is funding his studies himself, will use the cash to buy a digital piano.

He added: “I’ll take my friends out tonight for a meal. I think with the rest I will use if for tuition fees.”

Like all super car drivers Hengqin was given a bottle of champagne to spray during the celebrations.

William explained someone won a car in the competition every week.

“We go all round the country surprising people,” he said.

“You never know who it’s going to be.

“They’re all different cars and it’s always making somebody have a very happy Tuesday morning.”

As well as selling tickets online, BOTB has stands in many shopping centres and all of Britain’s major airports.
