Landing gear firm quality director 'over the moon' at performance car competition win

Emotions were flying high on Tuesday morning as a landing gear worker won a Subaru WRX STi worth nearly £29,000.

Richard Howe, employed at APPH, scooped the win in the latest weekly competition with Best Of The Best (BOTB).

He also received £10,000.

A BOTB spokeswoman said quality director Richard is no stranger to speed, and the £28,995 Subaru is certain to live up to his standards.

The 45-year-old was called out of a conference call at work in Runcorn on Tuesday, as BOTB’s Christian surprised him with the performance car.

He said: “I’m over the moon.

“I just can’t believe I’ve actually won!

“I’ll always remember someone telling me that I’ll never win, but I knew one day it would be me.

“I just had no idea it would be today.

“We’re looking at new cars at the minute, as we live in the country we need something bigger, so this is the perfect car for me to have to run to work in!”

From working with Dave Richards to driving around in his mate’s STi, the spokeswoman said Richard has never stopped loving cars.

He said: “About 20 years ago I went for a ride in an STi, and I just fell in love there and then.

“It was an imported one, with the exhaust of dreams!

"I think the sound of the car is one of the reasons I chose the car.”

BOTB boss Will Hindmarch said he was delighted for Richard.

He said: “I can honestly say that I have the best job in the world.

“Travelling somewhere new each week to give people the keys to a dream car is incredibly rewarding.

“There’s a huge team of people at BOTB involved in the winner’s surprise and to see the reaction on Richard’s face when we turned up just makes the whole thing worthwhile.”

BOTB surprises a winner with a dream car every week and has given away motors worth over £18m since it was founded in 1999.
