Pembroke dad wins £50k and Lamborghini in BOTB competition
Matt James had returned home to the house he shares with dad Gerald, after a hospital appointment only to be surprised by a £208,000 Lamborghini Urus SE with an added treat in the boot.
Matt, from Pembroke, won the prize, worth a total of £258,000, after years of playing with leading online competition specialist BOTB.
“I can’t believe it’s finally happened,” said 40-year-old Matt when the BOTB team popped round with his prize. “It seems like a dream.
“I told my dad one day I’d win, and he said I’d have grey hair before that would happen. Well, I’m not quite grey yet. I just believed in myself and kept going.”
The Lamborghini Urus SE – worth a jaw-dropping £208,000 – is a plug-in hybrid super SUV, known for its blistering speed, unique driving modes, and cutting-edge dynamics.
It is the largest prize ever handed out in the BOTB Dream Car competition.
In the boot of the car was another surprise; a suitcase with £50,000 in cash.
Matt couldn’t wait to hop into the driver’s seat and fire up the engine. ‘That sounds naughty,’ he said.
Offered the choice between the dream car and the equivalent in cash, Matt decided to choose the cash alternative, pocketing a cool £258,000 in order to give both himself and his family a helping hand.
“I can help my brother’s young family,” he said. “It’ll help give them a start in life – it just feels like the right thing to do.”
He also hopes to upgrade his current car and put a deposit down on a house.
BOTB presenter Christian Williams said: “This is our largest prize in the Dream Car Competition – and the fact he has been playing for a long time, what a worthy winner.
“It was clear how much winning meant to Matt, and we’re absolutely thrilled for him. The Lamborghini Urus SE is one of the most exciting vehicles in the world right now.”
It also offers people the chance to win a holiday, cash, tech, cars and more in its Instant Wins Competition.
“During the surprise I felt a mixture of nervousness, anxiety and relief,” said Matt. “It was such an amazing experience. I was so desperate to win the top prize.
“The last thing I won was a bottle of wine about 20 years ago.”
