Pub-quizzer man wins £15k prize - from 75p competition {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

A 27-year-old from Rugby has won £15,000 after entering an online competition which cost him 75p.

Tom Rundell, who is a pub-quizzer, was at work when he received the life-changing call from BOTB presenter Christian Williams telling him he was that week's winner.

This was the warehouse workers's first time entering the competition.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I was just bored on Sunday night scrolling through Facebook and I came across BOTB and thought why not give it a go. I never in a million years expected Christian to call me!”

Tom said he’d use the money to treat himself to a new car and some of it would go towards a deposit for a house with his girlfriend, Paige.

“I think car shopping is definitely on the cards,” he added. “I love Mercedes - it would be between the AMG or A-Class. And then I’m saving for a house at the moment so some of it would definitely go towards a deposit, too!”

Tom paid just 75p for his ticket to enter the competition and all he had to do was answer a skilled question.

“The question was on mountains and which one out of the list was the tallest,” he explained. “I don’t know how I knew the answer but I knew it was Mont Blanc.

“I used to play in a weekly pub quiz team before the pandemic so I think I just would have heard it as one of the questions maybe!”

Tom's win comes a short time after another player from Rugby won her dream car.

Christian, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: “What a lucky man Tom is! Within hours of signing up on the BOTB website he scooped the £15,000 cash prize in our lifestyle competition.

“He sounds sensible putting some of the money towards a house deposit but I think he’ll be more excited about getting a new Mercedes! Massive congratulations again Tom!”
