Redbridge Pharmacist Wins New Porsche and £10K Cash in Best Christmas Present Ever {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

Balmeet Lall shuffled out of his house at 10.30am on a grey Thursday morning, wearing slippers and shorts, expecting to get a Christmas hamper.

The 30-year-old had entered a competition to win sports car last week, but had received a call the night before explaining all he had won was the hamper.

His jaw almost hit the floor when he rounded the corner to find a brand new red Porsche Cayman – the best Christmas present ever.

He had won the BOTB weekly competition, which included £10,000 cash in the boot.

Balmeet told the Recorder: “I was Christmas shopping in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush and this guy said I can win this car.

“I bought £200 of tickets, but I thought I had lost. I was expecting a Christmas hamper.

“People from Redbridge don’t win a new Porsche.”

Balmeet, of Redbridge Lane East, Redbridge, had spent the morning on the internet finding out what John Lewis Christmas hampers contained.

He had not changed out of his pyjamas because he did not expect to be photographed, despite his mum’s protestations.

Balmeet, who works as a pharmacist in Southend, said he was excited to show off the Porsche to colleagues: “I would like to see their faces.”

Balmeet’s mum, Jawiender Aulaku, said: “I only have one piece of advice my son, do not drive too fast.”

“This will be an extra special Christmas,” she added.

Balmeet’s surprise attracted attention from most of his neighbours, with one onlooker commenting: “If you win another car I only live at number six.”
