Retired plumber from Rochdale wins £60,000 dream car and cash prize in a spot the ball competition
A retired plumber from Greater Manchester has won a car and cash prize worth £60,000 in an online "spot the ball" competition.
Paul Griffiths, from Rochdale, won a £40,000 Volkswagen Golf GTI and £20,000 cash prize after spending a couple of pounds on a weekly dream car competition.
The 68-year-old was at home when he received a surprise visit from Katie Knight, a presenter for the dream car giveaway firm BOTB.
Katie led him outside to show him his brand-new Golf GTI parked nearby – with his daughter by his side to witness the moment.
Sitting in his new car for the first time, Paul was quick to compare it to his old model.
“This is a dream car for me – I love the curb appeal,” he said. “It sounds more powerful than my last Golf.”
But the surprises didn’t stop there. Katie opened the boot to reveal a suitcase containing £20,000 in cash.
“I’m going to do so much good with that, including treating my kids. It also gives us some financial security,” Paul added.
Katie said: “Paul’s reaction was priceless – he was genuinely in shock at first, then completely overjoyed.
“He’s been entering for a while, so to finally hand him the keys to his dream car, with his daughter there to share the moment, felt really special.
“Paul is a worthy winner and I know he’ll enjoy every minute behind the wheel of the Golf GTI.”
The Volkswagen Golf GTI remains one of the UK’s most iconic performance hatchbacks, boasting 262bhp, a turbocharged i4 engine, and a top speed of 155mph.
BOTB hands over the keys to a stunning dream car each week, as well as offering lifestyle prizes.
The company is also currently offering people the chance to win a luxury £880,000 countryside home in Suffolk for just 99p.
