Runcorn man shocked to win dream VW Golf car with BOTB competition
A RUNCORN man was left stunned when he opened his front door expecting a plasterer.
Instead, Antony Kewley found out that he had won his dream car and £50,000 in cash, worth a total of £90,000.
The 48-year-old was at home on leave when he received the shock of a lifetime, discovering a £40,000 Volkswagen Golf GTI parked outside his house, with a suitcase full of cash in the boot.
“I honestly thought it was the plasterer turning up.” Antony said.
“The last couple of days have been a whirlwind. I have watched so many videos of other people winning and dreamt of it myself, but never thought it would actually happen.”
Antony, who describes himself as a ‘VW nutter’, could not believe his luck when he saw the hot hatch gleaming outside his home.
“This is amazing. I love cars – especially hot hatches – and the GTI has always been my favourite,” he said
“I just want to drive it. It’s stunning, it’s got a classic look, and it drives amazingly. Most weeks, I’ll play to win the VW – it’s just the complete package.
“I’ve had loads of cars over the years, but never a brand-new one.”
Antony plans to put some of the prize money towards a holiday, with more saved for the future, but he admits there will be family treats too.
“My wife has already been eyeing up kitchens, so she will definitely get a slice of the pie, and my daughter has always fancied skydiving, so that might be on the cards too.
“I have had a few health issues recently, so this has come at the perfect time. It is such a positive thing for all of us.”
Katie said: “Antony currently drives an older model GTI, so to give him the keys to this incredible upgrade was so special, especially as it is the first brand-new car he has ever owned.
“His reaction was brilliant, and the fact he thought I was a plasterer just made it even better.
“Every winner has their own strategy when they play, and Antony’s enthusiasm for VWs really came through. We are so thrilled for him and his family.”
BOTB hands over the keys to a stunning dream car each week, as well as offering lifestyle prizes.
It also offers people the chance to win a holiday, cash, tech, cars and more in its instant wins competition.
Founded in 1999, BOTB has given away £99.1million worth of cars so far.
“I play for fun every week, and I usually get nowhere near. It’s just crazy,” Antony added.
“It is a good thing I am off work this week, as I am not sure I would have been able to concentrate.”
