South London student wins £50k car in competition but doesn’t know how to drive {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

A student from South London has won the prize of a lifetime, a brand new Mercedes car plus a huge £70,000 in cash.

But there is one thing standing in the way.

Winner Osman Abdullah, 21 from Wimbledon, doesn't know how to drive.

Osman entered the online competition with Best of the Best (BOTB), and was shocked to discover he'd won the jackpot prize of a Mercedes A45S AMG plus the life-changing cash sum.

He was in the middle of an online class with the College of Westminster when BOTB presenter Christian Williams video-called to tell him he was this week’s Dream Car Competition winner.

Osman studies science at college and hopes to become a surgeon. He'd paid just £2 to enter the competition.

"I can’t believe it, this is a dream come true," he said of winning the prize.

"I was having [driving] lessons before the pandemic, but since lockdown I’ve not been able to book a test." he added.

“I’ve been saving money for the past two years so that when I pass my test I can get a nice car, but I never in a million years expected to drive a £50,000 Mercedes."

The Mercedes A45S features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that can hit 62mph in just 3.9 seconds.

When asked what he will do with his cash prize, Osman, who moved to London in 2016 to study and whose mum lives in Sudan, said: "I would definitely give some of it to get my mum to get a house, she definitely deserves it.

"I’d have to have a think about what else to spend it on - I just can’t believe it."

Christian, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: “What a day for Osman. I did feel guilty interrupting his college class but I’m sure he was happy for my call in the end.

"I can’t believe the Mercedes is going to be Osman’s first car - and paired with the cash too, it’s a fantastic prize."

BOTB hands over the keys to two cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize for lucky competition winners. Other recent winners have received a quad bike, a holiday to Las Vegas and a gaming tech bundle.
