The Audi S3 has always been about subtle performance – the styling has never shouted out loud about what it can do, and that’s certainly the case with the current model.
To the uninitiated, it could be a 1.5 S-Line model; little do they know it’s a 300hp AWD hot hatch capable of showing some sports cars a clean pair of heels. However, if you want more, without going too overboard, you can go and see the people at ABT, who will fettle your S3 for you…
So here they take the S3 and add their ECU tune, which boosts power to 365bhp and torque to 450Nm, enough to cut the 0-62mph time down to 4.4 seconds. The looks are improved by the addition of ABT’s 20-inch GR alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, and then out back, you have ABT’s exhaust system, which adds back some of the fruity noise that hot hatches have lost in recent years.
What you then have is a hot hatch that looks a little more purposeful, sounds a whole lot better and has more performance than most people will ever need. What a car!
