In the world of Camper vans, the go-to for the basis of these conversions for many years has been the Fiat Ducato. But then Volkswagen released the new Crafter van, and it gave you everything you’d expect from a VW and looked great. Knaus is one of the top camper companies in the world right now, and it’s not hard to see why when you look at the Boxdrive – their latest medium-sized camper model based on this new VW.
Using the upgraded 177bhp 2.0 litre diesel engine, it’s certainly got enough grunt to move along. At the same time, the 8spd auto makes driving as easy as it can be and don’t worry, it’s Euro6 compatible, so fine for driving in European cities.
But it’s inside that the Boxdrive stands out – the layout of this 680ME has a large bed area at the rear, a fully fitted kitchen area which is as stylish as that in any home and a whole toilet with sink.
But the real treat with the Boxdrive is the ‘open bathroom’ – when you look inside, you can’t see a shower, but the central circular detail in the roof gives a clue – the circular doors rotate to access the toilet and in doing so gives you a round shower cubicle where the water comes down from the roof. It’s an ingenious solution, allowing space and a great shower in a relatively small camper.
This has to be one of the best value campers on the market today, and it could be yours next week!
