Land Rover Defender V8 Works 70th Anniversary

Land Rover Defender V8 Works 70th Anniversary

How much?! Yes, to be honest that’s what we thought when we saw the price tag for this 70th Anniversary Works Defender from Land Rover. But once you look into the details you can really see why that isn’t just good value, it’s a bargain. To start with let’s talk about the biggest change – out goes the Defender’s 120bhp diesel engine and in goes Jaguar’s 5.0 litre V8, with a staggering 399bhp. That’s enough to propel the Defender to 62mph in just 5.6 seconds – which to anyone who has ever driven a Defender is a pretty terrifying prospect. But given that this is made by Land Rover’s SVO department you know that there’s a lot more work under the skin too, like upgraded suspension, better wheels and tyres, a fruity exhaust to make the most of that V8 and bigger brakes to help you stop. Inside there’s leather on every surface to make the agricultural Defender feel a little more luxurious, and the infotainment system has been upgraded along with more sound deadening. One really cool feature is the inclusion of the ‘pistol shifter’ from the Range Rover Sport in the dash, even if it does look a little out of place. This thing must be such a hoot to drive, we really hope we get to try one!
