Mercedes A35 AMG + GLC43 AMG

Mercedes A35 AMG + GLC43 AMG

REVIEW

MERCEDES A35 AMG

When production stopped of the old Mercedes-AMG A45, petrolheads all over the world cried out in agony as their favourite mega hatch with pops and crackles had gone. But then the new shape A-Class was released and we saw a fantastic looking hatch with tonnes of cool tech and our appetite was whetted. Well so far the news is good but not amazing - there’s still no new A45 - but they have just released this new A35 4Matic. Set up as a rival to the Golf R and Civic Type-R, the new A35 has a 2.0-litre turbo engine with 302bhp and puts that power to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. When you look at the aero kit available in the official images too, it really does look like an A45 just with a little less power. The interior of the new A-Class is on another level too, with a huge double screen ahead of the driver and funky details everywhere. Being a proper AMG model the A35 gets the new AMG steering wheel too with the seriously cool LCD drive selector and exhaust buttons. Before, the Golf R was the daddy of the hot hatches, but this A35 looks to have absolutely blown it out of the water. Well done, Mercedes-AMG!

MERCEDES GLC43 AMG

Mercedes seem to be intent on filling every niche there is in the marketplace, and when that’s done they create new ones and fill those too. But while they’re still creating crazy AMG machines we’re happy for them to do whatever they want! The AMG ranges have in recent times just been one ’63 model, with V8 power and a raucous soundtrack, but now Mercedes has decided to add a lower ’43 model into the ranges, which for 2020 has a 385 bhp twin-turbocharged V6 engine and it’s this that powers the new GLC43 AMG SUV. Small enough to still feel like a car rather than piloting a small supertanker, the GLC is a sleek looking medium-sized SUV which now has a raspy V6 petrol AMG lump to power it. So you have power, looks, soundtrack and a seriously nice interior. We keep saying this, but this could be all the car you ever need…
