« Back Other Cooper S + Kodiaq vRS
MINI COOPER S
When Mini launched the new Cooper S in 2001 it set a new benchmark for the segment. Fast, fun, with great handling and terrific styling meant that sales went through the roof and continued right through the second generation model which was sold worldwide to great success. But times change and now Mini has released the third generation of Cooper S. With a new 2.0 litre turbo engine putting out 189 bhp the Cooper S certainly has the speed – 6.7 seconds to 62 mph and a 146 top speed are pretty quick, but also despite being bigger than the predecessor it still handles like a go-kart.
SKODA KODIAQ VRS
Back in 2001 Skoda was merely a maker of sturdy, reliable, roomy VW Group-based cars. But then they gave their Octavia a motorsport shot in the arm to create the Octavia vRS, a 180bhp hot hatch that quickly gained a cult following for its great performance, value and tuning potential. The Fabia then got the vRS treatment, but it’s only ever been those two models – until now. At the top of the Skoda tree sits their biggest SUV – the Kodiaq – and it is this model that has now been given a shiny vRS badge and a whole heap of performance to boot. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine producing 237bhp and 500Nm – that’s enough to propel this 7-seat SUV to 62mph in 7.0 seconds while still returning 40+mpg. The exterior looks are beefed up with a nice set of 20-inch alloys and new, more aggressive bumpers, while inside there’s black alcantara with diamond pattern stitched in red and carbon effect dash panel which really lifts it and makes it feel special. The versatility of the 7-seat layout is unparalleled too, so what Skoda have created is a do-it-all machine – looks great, performs well and is supremely practical. We’ll take one in blue please!
