In the late 1990’s there was a battle that raged across the petrolhead landscapes of the world – the rallying road cars. There were some fringe contenders, but at its core the fight was always Subaru Impreza Vs Mitsubishi Evo. With all the years of development in these cars it was basically down to personal preference which one you chose, and you wouldn’t be disappointed. But in 2000 Mitsubishi brought out a seriously cool contender in the battle, one that adopted the name of one of the most successful rally drivers of all time – the Evo 6 Tommi Makinen Edition. It ran the same drivetrain as the Evo 6, but the turbo got a titanium turbine for faster spooling, while the suspension was tweaked so it sat lower and cornered flatter and there was additional body bracing. The front bumper lost the big spotlights of the standard car but gained more intakes and it really looked the part in red or white with the Ralliart stripes. Many believe the Evo 6 TME was the best Evo of them all and we have to agree.
