The Boxster was a landmark car for Porsche when it was released in 1996. Mating 911 looks with a mid engined layout and flat-six engines was an instant sales success and it quickly became Porsche’s biggest selling model (in the days before the Cayenne). But time moves on and twenty years later the third generation Boxster is getting its first facelift, this time with a new name and an even bigger change. So say hello to the 718 Boxster S and its flat-four turbocharged engine – that’s right, the flat-six engine is dead in the Boxster. But all is not lost – the 2.5 litre turbo engine produces a massive 345bhp and 310lb/ft of torque, meaning it still manages 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. We’re assured the flat-four will still sound incredible, we just can’t wait to get behind the wheel and see if the 718 still has the same spark as the old model.…
