A while ago, someone at BMW decided that they loved a big, high riding SUV but they are all a bit too boxy, so let’s add a sloping coupe-like roofline to make it sexier and the X6 was born. Mercedes joined in with the GLE Coupe shortly after and now the latest player has entered the ring, and it’s a big one - Porsche. The Cayenne is the car that saved Porsche, but has remained largely the same since its introduction – a large SUV that in all honesty already had a sleeker rear than other rivals. But now they’ve introduced this Cayenne Coupe and it has transformed the looks of the Cayenne.
The roofline sits 20mm lower, while from the B-Pillar back the roof now slopes dramatically to the rear end which has more than a hint of Panamera and 992 to it. This Cayenne GTS Coupe sits just below the fire breathing Turbo and shares its 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, albeit at a lower state of tune. Here that throaty V8 produces 454bhp and 620Nm of torque which is good enough for a 4.5 second sprint to 62mph and a 168mph top speed.
Being a GTS model it comes with a huge amount of options all lumped in, for less than it would cost to add them separately, so you have the Sport Design Kit which adds some visual menace, tinted LED headlights and tail lights, along with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system (PASM) with a bespoke setup for the GTS.
21-inch wheels are standard, as are red painted brake calipers and it rides 20mm lower than the normal Cayenne S on its standard steel springs or 30mm lower on the optional air suspension.
As is the way with Porsche these days, the GTS represents the best value in the range and is certainly quick without being silly fast like the Turbo.
And you can win a Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe in the BOTB Dream Car Competition!
