The Evoque is arguably the car that saved Land Rover – allowing people access to the premium Range Rover badge at a much lower price point.

It was also based on standard LR mechanicals but sold at a higher price, so it was a big moneymaker. This is why you’d be forgiven for thinking nothing has changed with this new Evoque – if it isn’t broken, why fix it?

So to the casual observer, the new Evoque looks very similar to the old one, but every panel is new. They’ve taken the new Range Rover family look of slimmer LED headlights and funky grille, adding the Velar rear lights and bingo – the same familiar shape but looking 2020 and modern.

It’s no longer than the old car but has a slightly longer wheelbase meaning more rear legroom, and that interior looks straight from the Velar. This is an excellent specced Evoque with a 247bhp 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine, which gives excellent performance but still returns 30mpg.
