Seat Leon Cupra R ABT Estate

Seat Leon Cupra R ABT Estate

REVIEW

The VW Golf R Estate has had a pretty easy life, being thought of as a budget RS6 thanks to the tight handling, AWD and ample power in a practical estate body, which let it have the market to itself. So it was surprising to see a rival emerge from the same parent company in the form of this – the Seat Leon Cupra R ST ABT. Now, slightly nerdy name aside, this is pretty much a Golf R in different clothes – same EA888 2.0 litre turbo engine, same floorpan, same 7spd DSG gearbox, same AWD system. But the Leon certainly has a little more design flair to it, especially in this Cupra R guise which has lots of carbon aero parts on the outside along with tastefully done bronze details. But one place this outguns the Golf is in the power stakes – this Cupra R has the factory-fitted ABT power kit which takes it up to 345bhp giving it some serious performance. If you like your performance estates with a Spanish flair and German feel, this is absolutely the car for you.
