« Back Volvo Polestar 1
Cast your mind back to 2013 – Volvo revealed the Coupe Concept, a sleek, 2dr coupe which heralded their new era of design language and sent everyone into a tailspin at such a beautiful Volvo. But the XC90 appeared, then the S & V90, then the XC60 and a few more and sadly there was no coupe – but little did we know Volvo had a plan... You see they had their performance brand already called Polestar, but now they have branched Polestar out into their own company and this is their first offering – the Polestar 1. Now it all makes sense as we now see this is where the Coupe Concept ended up, but it looks even better with a few years of tweaking and honing the design. Now Polestar could have simply made this into a RWD, V6 powered coupe, but they like to innovate, so this is a hybrid. Don’t think Prius though, as this sleek coupe boasts a full carbon fibre body to save weight, a 2.0 litre turbo engine up front and two electric motors at the back with a battery back under the floor between the two powertrains. The result? 592bhp. Yes, you read that correctly – nearly 600bhp in a (sort of) Volvo! This is AWD, has an electric range of over 100km and will be exceptionally quick – official performance figures haven’t been released yet but the above numbers are estimates on the low side! We really can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this one.
NOTE: The Polestar 1 is LHD only, even in the UK.
