VW Group’s penchant for parts-sharing is well known, but in this instance we think it’s the best example. The Octavia sits on a stretched Golf platform, so there’s a massive boot and acres of rear legroom, but you still get the fantastic handling expected of the platform.
Looks-wise this is the totally new Octavia with a sleek new design. There’s a low nose with slim LED lights, a wide blacked-out grille and a more aggressive bumper, while at the rear there is a lip spoiler and twin exhausts. It even gets 19-inch alloys as standard.
Inside you get all the latest VW Group tech and kit, with a huge standard spec list including heated seats, keyless entry, sports seats and a massive infotainment screen.
This model gets 242bhp from the 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine going through the front wheels via the 7-speed DSG gearbox which gives ample performance – 0-62mph taking just 6.6 seconds on the way to a 155mph top speed – and you can also expect around 40mpg. Ignore everything you thought you knew about Skoda – the vRS is a proper hot hatch.
