Barista wins thousands in online competition

Jul 2021

A FLAT-HUNTING barista who won a competition for a PS5 bundle worth more than £4,000 has opted for the cash alternative.

Twenty-year-old Lewis Hamilton-Smith first began taking part in BOTB’s online competitions at the start of lockdown.

He correctly identified that a set of headlights belonged to a car manufactured by Mercedes to win a lifestyle prize, which included a PlayStation 5 console, a PULSE 3D wireless headset, four DualSense wireless controllers, a PS VR Starter Kit, PS VR Move Controllers, PS VR Aim Controller, £250 PlayStation Store credit, and 12 months of PlayStation Plus membership.

However, the former Dunbar Grammar School pupil opted not to take the prize and instead go for the cash alternative of £3,424.

Entry to the competition cost just 30p, with Lewis, who works as a barista maestro at Costa Coffee in North Berwick, finding out he was last week’s winner when BOTB presenter Christian Williams video called him to give him the good news.

Reacting to his victory, Lewis said: “No way!”

However, when the Courier spoke to Lewis, of East Linton, he revealed that he had opted not to take the gaming prize in the end and instead went for the cash alternative.

He said: “I’m flat hunting at the minute so the money will go towards a deposit and furniture.”
